IELTS Speaking Part 1: Snacks

IELTS Speaking Part 1: Snacks

General Rules:

Here are some general rules about Part 1 that you may find useful. The point of Task 1 is for you to answer shortly to many questions. Think of it like an interview where you need to answer questions about yourself. You should:

Keep it short. When you practice, in general try to answer in 15 to 20 seconds per question.

Give at least 1 reason and 1 real-life example. Again very general but try to have at least 1 real example in your answer.

Talk about yourself. This part is all related to you (if the question doesn't say another person).

So, lets take a look at some questions:

Vocabulary related to the topic

Sentence starters and Linking words

Idioms or Special Phrases

Some Snacks:

If you want to talk about snacks, it's better to know a few. Here are some examples. There are many more, and you can add to your list of snacks you enjoy eating.

What snacks do you like to eat?

Answer 1:

I like to try many new types of snacks regularly. This is one of my favorite activities. I'd eat different types of chocolate, cookies or biscuits, fruit jellies, and many kinds of potato chips. I can eat basically anything, as long as it's delicious.

My Personal Answer:

In terms of snacks, I love eating meat. I'm a meat lover, and so I really appreciate different types of smoked, seasoned, fried, grilled, barbecued, or even normally cooked meat. At home, I'd prepare myself some slices of prosciutto, Italian salami, ham, sausage and even add some pieces of cheese and have my own small meat platter. These are my favorite snacks at home.

Did you often eat snacks when you were young?

Answer 1:

Like every other kid, yes, of course, I did. I liked the usual things such as popcorn, potato chips, some chocolate candy, or waffles. Just the usual that every kid would like to eat, I guess. Since then, my snacking habit has changed a bit, but I still eat some of these from time to time.

My Personal Answer:

When I was younger, I loved sweets. You could say that I had a sweet tooth. I loved everything sugary and sweet like cakes, candy, chocolate, jellies, and many others. My most favorite thing was to save some money and then go to a snack shop and buy Milka chocolate. I'd eat all of it up at once. Nowadays, I try to control my indulgence, however, every now and then I'd still eat a whole chocolate bar.

My Personal Answer:

Do you think it is healthy for you to eat snacks?

Answer 1:

I guess it's ok. As long as we don't overeat, everything is fine. For instance, nobody said we have to finish a whole bar of chocolate at once... We could eat it for a whole week! Or things like fast food. We can eat once a week or so, and it will be fine. The problem happens when a person gets addicted and can't stop consuming every day.

My Personal Answer:

I believe the answer to this question changes based on a person's age. When we're young, our body's metabolism is much quicker. This means that we can decompose the extra calories we take as snacks. Later on, after thirty, our metabolism slows down dramatically. Most people begin to gain weight uncontrollably and have to reduce the number of snacks for the sake of their health.

My Personal Answer:

When do you usually eat snacks now?

Answer 1:

Usually, while I watch TV or while I'm chatting with friends. I really like to share food with others, and so I'd buy some potato chips, some crisps, or anything else that is chewable and share around while talking about our favorite topics.

My Personal Answer:

I have my own personal ritual. It's nothing unique or out of the ordinary, but I like to think it's mine. I prepare many types of snacks, at times healthy like a salad, cheese, meat, and at times other types like shrimp flavored crisps, chips or chocolate... I prepare a whole bowl of these altogether and then watch a movie. The problem is that I usually eat all of them in the first 10 minutes of the movie, impatiently, and then begin to dream about more snacks during the duration of the movie.

Did your parents buy you lots of snacks when you were young?

Answer 1:

They were a bit conservative with that. I think many parents know that snacks are actually unhealthy and can cause their kids to get addicted, gain weight, and have other negative side effects. And so my parents tried to control my snacking. They bought me some, but perhaps once or twice a month.

My Personal Answer:

My mom, my sister, and I had this tradition. Every Saturday, we'd go out to a bakery or a cake shop or Mcdonald's and eat a meal together. Actually, my mom would pass on the eating, but she'd buy us a kids' meal with a toy or a cake and enjoy watching us eating it. To this day, this is one of my best and warmest memories from my childhood. We didn't have that much money available, but we made sure we followed this tradition until our very late teenage years.

My Personal Answer:

Have you eaten any strange or interesting kinds of snacks?

Answer 1:

To be honest, I tried to stay away from anything weird, crazy, or out of the ordinary. I've seen many strange-looking snacks eaten in front of me like frogs, insects on a stick, snake soup, and more, but I've never tried them personally. I just find them a bit yucky

My Personal Answer:

I live in China at the moment.

Let me see... As I moved to live in China a few years ago, I definitely saw many new and weird snacks. The locals eat a large variety of animals and animal parts. For instance, a very common snack in the south of China is chicken feet. You can find them in all restaurants and shops, and the locals love them. While I never tried that, I've eaten some things that some people might consider out of the ordinary like frog hot pot, bear meat, ostrich eggs, and some other things. I'm not the biggest enthusiast for strange food though, and I try to stay away from most.

Posted on  09/13/2022 02:24 PM Sunflower seeds are popular as an office snack helping us to ease our stress when we eat them like a roditore. Crunching them open makes us feel like beating the tasks up. Though it is prohibited being considered as a signal of laziness and corruption we do it from time to time.
